175 Years Since Hone Heke Cut Down The Flagpole

Last week there had been a special ceremony to mark the 175th year when Hone Heke had cut down the Flagpole. This ceremony was held in the far north of New Zealand. It was the falling of the flagstaff at Kororareka. In the year 1845 the Ngapuhi chiefs Hone Heke and Te Ruki Kawati joined Forces to make the ultimate team so they could cut down the British empires flagpole. The action of these 2 chiefs is what started the "flagstaff war".
This commemoration was a reminder to the people of New Zealand to hold onto their rangatiratanga.
